INTRODUÇÃO

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a hardcore tactical stealth game, similar to the Commandos or Desperados series, but instead of World War II or the Wild West, it’s set in Japan during the Edo period.
The country is at peace and prospering, but in the shadows a name is being whispered; Kage-sama.
The Shogun, in order to prevent everything he’s worked so hard for from falling apart, recruits a team of five agents to uncover the truth behind these whispers.

PASSO A PASSO

Step 1: Play through the game, on hardcore difficulty, by yourself.

Even though this step is optional, I would highly recommend everyone to first play through all the missions by themselves. Shadow Tactics is not as difficult as some people claim and it’s such an awesome game that it really deserves this.

Also, if you choose hardcore difficulty, you will already take a big step towards earning the platinum and it will help you familiarize yourself with the game better. This, in turn, will help you for the next major step; collecting all the badges.

At the end of this step you will have earned:

  •  A Thief’s Beginning
  •  Rescue Takuma
  •  Yabu
  •  Mugen Unchained
  •  Okkoto
  •  Noboru OR  Undeserved Honor

Aside from these trophies, you will likely earn multiple other trophies as well. This will differ from person to person though.

Step 2: Collect all badges in each mission, kill all developers and pay attention to mission specific trophies.

This will be the most time-consuming step. You will now want to play through each mission and:

  • collect every badge,
  • kill all the developers found throughout the various missions and
  • pay attention to every mission specific trophy.

Each mission comes with 9 badges and since some of these badges conflict with each other, you will have to play through each mission twice.

Every mission has a badge for completing it on hardcore difficulty. If you followed the previous step however, you won’t have to worry about that anymore and you can complete all other badges on normal difficulty. (Note: You cannot earn badges on beginner difficulty!)

Aside from hardcore difficulty, you will also need to speedrun each mission. This is actually not as difficult as it sounds, but it requires you to be familiar with each mission and the game/controls.

The biggest nuisance about the speedruns is that if you mess up and need to reload a previous save, you should quit out to the main menu before doing so. The reason for this is that the time keeps ticking.
The controls for the PS4 version are also inferior to that of the PC version. This can make selecting something a bit hard at times, but the biggest difference is the fact that you can’t move multiple characters simultaneously without using shadow mode.

For those who dislike speedruns, I do have good news. There is an exploit which allows you to fool the in-game timer and earn these badges without any stress. Details on how to perform this exploit can be found in the trophy guide.

The rest of the badges are earned by performing a variety of tasks. Some of these can be very insignificant, while others will restrict you in some way (i.e.: no kills) or require you to finish the mission using different methods.

For an entire overview of all badges and details on how to achieve them (including speedrun videos), please refer to the trophy description of Complete Mastery  in the trophy guide below.

In each mission you will also find at least one enemy NPCs that is named after a developer of the game, which you will need to kill. For an overview of all developers found throughout the various missions and their locations, please refer to the trophy description of Mimimi  in the trophy guide below.

Finally, check out the mission-by-mission overview below. It will tell you about mission specific trophies, as well as other trophies and the earliest point at which they can be earned.
Please refer to each trophy’s description in the trophy guide for more details on how to achieve these.

Aside from these trophies, you will likely earn multiple other trophies as well. More specifically all (or most of) the trophies requiring you to kill, hide or knock-out X enemies. This will differ from person to person though.

Step 3: Clean up

Almost there! All that’s left now is cleaning up any trophies that you might have missed. This will be different for everyone so have a look at my trophy guide to find the specific trophies you’re missing and how to achieve them.

GUIA DE TROFÉUS

Shadow Tactician
Unlock all trophies.

Unlocks automatically once you’ve earned all other trophies. Congratulations!

 Old Man
Visit Takuma in his tower in Ōsaka Castle.

This can only be earned during the first mission.

In the final section of the mission, where Takuma is introduced, you can use Hayato’s hookshot to reach the top of the tower where Takuma is located. (Press  to highlight interactable objects if you can’t see where to use the hookshot.)

 No Gimmicks
Use Hayato’s stone to rescue Mugen in Ōsaka Castle.

This can only be earned during the first mission.

At some point you will need to help a samurai by distracting three guards. Simply throw a stone behind them with Hayato.

 Happy Planning
Kill 3 guards with the planks hanging from the Yagura Mon.

This can only be earned during the first mission.

In the final section of the mission, where Takuma is introduced, two officers will be standing near the main gate. Hanging above them you’ll notice some planks. Now wait until a soldier reports to them and shoot the rope holding the planks with Takuma. (Alternatively, you can climb up to the roof with either Hayato or Mugen and release the mechanism holding the planks.)

 The Cave
Find the smiling creature in a little cave on the Nakasendō.

This can only be earned during the second mission.

Close to where Yuki is introduced there will be a small cave. Go inside to find the creature. (You will need to rotate your camera to see the cave.)

Note that in the screenshot below, Yuki is still at her original location on top of the big rock near the middle of the screenshot.

 Happy little accidents
Cause 3 accidents on the Nakasendō road.

This can only be earned during the second mission.

There are three locations where you can cause accidents during this mission. These locations are easily identified, since your characters will make comments about it when they’re close.

The three accidents and their location are:

  • Kill a guard with an ox.
This can be done by throwing a stone at the ox standing near the bridge. (Also earns you  Stoned Ox.)
  • Crush a guard with the big rock.
The rock is located at the U-turn near the bottom of the map. Use  to push it when a guard is standing below.
  • Crush a guard with the wagon.
The wagon is located towards the left side at the top of the map. Use  to remove both boxes acting as brakes.

 Stoned Ox
Kill a guard with an ox.

Earned while causing all three accidents on the Nakasendō road. See  Happy little accidents for more information.

 A thief’s beginning
Pickpocket someone with Yuki.

Story related, cannot be missed.

During the third mission you will need to pickpocket a key from a samurai.
Note that even if you kill the samurai before stealing the key, you will still earn the trophy once you pick it up.

 Rollin’
Hide in the red wagon in Imai town.

This can only be earned during the third mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 Ice Ice Yuki
Kill a samurai with an icicle.

This can only be earned during the third mission.

If you approach the compound from the rooftops, which can easily be done after riding the red wagon, you’ll notice an icicle at the edge of the mansion’s rooftop. The samurai from whom you need to steal the key will stop underneath this icicle at which point you can press  to kill him with it.

 Rescue Takuma
Help Takuma escape from Mount Tsuru.

Story related, cannot be missed.

You will earn this trophy near the end of the fourth mission once you’ve rescued Takuma.

 Flying Rocks
Kill a guard by throwing a rock with Mugen.

The earliest this can be earned is during the fourth mission, but it can also be unlocked during the 7th or 9th mission.

During any of the missions mentioned above, you will come across big rocks which can be picked up by Mugen. Once you’ve picked up a rock using , aim using  and press  to throw the rock. (Press  to highlight interactable objects if you’re having trouble finding any rocks.)

 Disguised
Put on Aiko’s disguise.

The earliest this can be earned is during the fourth mission, but it can also be unlocked during the 6th, 10th, 11th, 12th or 13th mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 Yabu
Kill Lord Yabu in his estate.

Story related, cannot be missed.

You will earn this trophy near the end of the fifth mission once you’ve killed Lord Yabu.

 Time Paradox
Kill General Okkoto prematurely in Hida village.

Note: You will fail the mission when going for this trophy, so make sure to save before doing this if you’re trying to complete the mission!

This can only be earned during the sixth mission.

After eavesdropping at either the tavern or stables, General Okkoto will appear in the game and at this point you can try to kill him. Since General Okkoto is a samurai, you will need two characters to kill him. The best way to do this is to position one of your characters on the walkway of the house in front of him and hide your other character in the nearby bush. Now shoot him, preferably with the character that has the high ground, and rush up to kill him with your other character.

 Mugen Unchained
Free Mugen in Suganuma village.

Story related, cannot be missed.

You will earn this trophy during the seventh mission once you’ve rescued Mugen.

 The Old Way
Kill General Okkoto with an explosive barrel.

This can only be earned during the eighth mission.

After blowing up the supply depot during the mission, you will need to gather all your characters at a safe spot (bush). Before doing this however, look towards the right of this bush. You’ll notice three explosive barrels. Have Mugen carry one (or more) of these to the other side where a large tent is located. The tent in question is decorated with a mon resembling that of the Takeda clan (four diamonds).

General Okkoto will come out of this tent, so it’s a good idea to place a barrel near the entrance. Other spots where he will go to are the table and the tatami mats used for cutting practice. Once you’re ready, gather your team at the safe spot and General Okkoto will come out of his tent. Now simply shoot one of the barrels you placed earlier. (Also earns you  Okkoto.)

 Prisoners
Free the prisoners in Kanazawa Castle.

This can only be earned during the eighth mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 Okkoto
End General Okkoto’s rebellion.

Story related, cannot be missed.

You will earn this trophy during the cutscene after finishing the eighth mission.

 The End
Shoot Kage-sama with Takuma in Kage-sama’s hideout.

This can only be earned during the ninth mission.

Takuma can’t drop down from the ledge where he starts, but if you move him towards the left of his original location (past the rock sticking out) you should get a clear shot to take Kage-sama down.

 Gear up
Reclaim all your equipment on your second visit to Mount Tsuru.

This can only be earned during the tenth mission.

Throughout the mission you’ll be able to reclaim parts of your equipment, either by eliminating certain enemies or simply picking them up close to where Aiko is being held. It’s pretty hard to miss anything, as each piece of equipment is indicated with a symbol. The exception being Kuma, but I’m not entirely sure whether he’s actually needed for this trophy.

Here’s a list of all the equipment you need to reclaim:

  • Kuma
Can be recalled while still imprisoned with Takuma. (Might not be required.)
  • Yuki’s tanto, Rat’s Tooth
Picked up from the samurai patrolling near the prison cells at the beginning.
  • 4x Matchlock pistols
All pistols are located on two tables near Aiko.
  • Yuki’s little trap
Picked up from a guard standing in the area slightly below Aiko.
  • Aiko’s disguise
Hanging from a clothesline close to the gate you need to pass to reach Mugen.
  • Yuki’s bird’s voice
Picked up from a guard early on in the second part of the mission, after reuniting with Mugen.
  • Hayato’s shuriken
Picked up from a guard during the second part of the mission, located in the area on the right after crossing the bridge.
  • Hayato’s ninjatō
Picked up from a guard during the second part of the mission, located in the area on the right after crossing the bridge.

 Stoned
Lure a guard into Hayato’s cell using his stone.

This can only be earned during the tenth mission.

Hide Hayato in the bushes at the start of the mission and throw a stone at the nearby guard.

 Still Rollin’
Hide in the wagon on your way up the Myōgi Pass.

This can only be earned during the twelfth mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 High Five the Moon
Climb the pagoda of the small temple at the Myōgi Pass.

This can only be earned during the twelfth mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 Praise the Shogun
Light the bonfire at the Myōgi Pass.

This can only be earned during the twelfth mission.

Close to your starting position, there’s a wall hidden behind some tents which can be “killed” by pressing . Doing so will reveal a bonfire inside, which can then be ignited by pressing . (You might want to rotate your camera to get a better view.)

Note that in the screenshot below, all characters (except Hayato) are still at their original location.

 Noboru
Take your revenge on Lord Noboru.

This can only be earned during the thirteenth mission.

Earned while unlocking all mission badges. See  Complete Mastery for more information.

 Undeserved Honor
Let Lord Noboru commit Seppuku.

This can only be earned during the thirteenth mission.

At the very end of the thirteenth mission, after reaching the top of the keep, don’t interfere and Lord Noboru will commit seppuku after a while.

 Atheist Ox
Make the ox kick the statue at Sunpu Castle.

This can only be earned during the thirteenth mission.

Very close to the well at the west wall, there’s a statue of Buddha with an ox standing next to it. Throw a stone at the ox with Hayato and the ox will destroy the statue.

 Warzone
Shoot an enemy inside a warzone or a shooting range.

The earliest this can be earned is during the eighth mission, but it can also be unlocked during the 13th mission.

At the beginning of the eighth mission, when you’re still outside Kanazawa castle, you will be in a warzone. Simply shoot any enemy here and the trophy will unlock, although for the purposes of the mission I would recommend shooting an enemy officer. The thirteenth mission also has two shooting ranges where this can be earned, one near the beginning of the mission and the other near the end.

 Winner Winner
Kill a chicken.

Earned while killing 11 chickens in one level. See  Chicken Dinner for more information.

 Chicken Dinner
Kill 11 chickens in one level.

This can only be earned during the sixth mission.

There are three spots where you can find chickens:

  • At the farm near the beginning (3).
  • After crossing the bridge past the stables (4).
  • Near the tavern (4).

Select Yuki’s trap and place it close to the chickens by holding . Then wait for them to walk into it or lure them towards it. (You can also use your matchlock pistols to kill them.)

 Too Early
Get shot while carrying an explosive barrel.

The earliest this can be earned is during the first mission, but it can also be unlocked during the 8th mission.

During either of the missions mentioned above, simply pick up an explosive barrel and let enemies spot Mugen. They will consequently blow up Mugen by shooting the explosive barrel.

 Tanuki Time
Run 500 meters with Kuma.

The earliest this can be earned is during the fifth mission, but it can also be unlocked during the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th or 13th mission.

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally while going for the other trophies. If you haven’t you can always place Kuma somewhere, then run to the other side of the map with Takuma and recall him. Repeat this until the trophy unlocks.

 Mimimi
Kill all developers.

Throughout the various missions you’ll find a few enemies named after the developers of the game. To check if an enemy has a name, you can hold  and hover the cursor over them.

There’s a total of 16 developers to be found across all missions. Each mission holds one named enemy, except for the 4th, 11th and 13th mission which contain two each. Note that once you’ve killed a developer the game will remember this, regardless of whether or not you quit or reload afterwards.

Check the screenshots below to see where each developer is located. (Note that some of these move around a bit.)

 Five Shadows
Execute a plan with actions for all 5 characters.

This can only be earned during the seventh or ninth mission. That being said, it’s easier to do in the ninth mission as you control five characters from the start, while in the seventh mission you’d have to rescue the villagers and Mugen first.

Press  to enter shadow mode and assign an action for each of your characters. Once everyone has been assigned an action, press  to execute the plan.

 Mercyful
Knock out 250 guards or samurai.

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally while going for the other trophies. If you haven’t you can always replay any level and knock out all enemies until the trophy unlocks. (In most levels, your characters will default to using lethal force. To change this hold  and then press . Repeat this for each character.)

 Genin
Kill 500 guards.

Earned while killing 1000 guards. See  Chunin for more information.

 Chunin
Kill 1000 guards.

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally while going for the other trophies. If you haven’t you can always replay any level and kill all enemies until the trophy unlocks.

 Jonin
Kill 50 samurai.

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally while going for the other trophies. If you haven’t you can always replay any level and kill all samurai until the trophy unlocks. It’s easier to do this in a level where Mugen is present, except for the 1st and 10th mission, as he can take out samurai on his own. Of all these missions, the eighth one probably has the most samurai.

 Thorough
Hide 250 bodies.

Earned while hiding 750 bodies. See  Meticulous for more information.

 Meticulous
Hide 750 bodies.

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally while going for the other trophies. If you haven’t you can always replay any level and hide bodies (in bushes, wells, houses,…) until the trophy unlocks.

 It’s raining men
Knock out a guard by throwing another guard at them.

This can probably be earned during any mission, although it will be easier to achieve in certain missions.

After killing or knocking out a guard, pick up his body and throw it at another guard. This can either be done by standing on higher ground and throwing the body down or by using Mugen (aim using  and throw using ).

 Complete Mastery
Collect all badges.

There’s a total of 117 badges to collect, nine in each mission. Due to the fact that some of these badges conflict with each other, you will have to play through each mission twice.

Every mission has a badge for completing it on hardcore difficulty, but all other badges can be collected on normal difficulty. (Note: You cannot earn badges on beginner difficulty!)

Aside from hardcore difficulty, you will also need to speedrun each mission. This is actually not as difficult as it sounds, but it requires you to be familiar with each mission and the game/controls.

The biggest nuisance about the speedruns is that if you fail and need to reload, you should quit out to the main menu before doing so. The reason for this is that the time keeps ticking. (e.g.: You’ve spent 3 minutes in a mission and save your game. You then continue for 30 seconds, but mess up and need to reload your last save. If you reload without quitting back to the main menu, the timer will be at 3 minutes and 30 seconds! By going back to the main menu before reloading however, the game’s timer will be back to 3 minutes.)

For those who dislike speedruns, I do have good news though. There is an exploit which allows you to fool the in-game timer and earn these badges without any stress. Details on how to perform this exploit can be found below. (Please note that I’ve done all speedruns myself, and thus never tried this exploit.)

1. Start a mission.
2. Create a manual save data at beginning of the mission. (The timer should be at 1 or 2 seconds.)
3. Play the mission until you almost reach the time limit. (i.e.: If the time limit is 15 minutes, just play the mission until you reach 14m30s or so, but do not reach 15 minutes.)
4. Save (auto or manual) before reaching the time limit (such as 14m30s).
5. Restart the mission.
6. Load the first manual save data (1-2 seconds).
7. Load the latest save data (auto/manual save). The timer should now be at 1 or 2 seconds again.

The rest of the badges are earned by performing a variety of tasks. Some of these can be very insignificant, while others will restrict you in some way (i.e.: no kills) or require you to finish the mission using different methods.

General Tips:

  • Badges cannot be earned on Beginner difficulty!
  • Once you’ve unlocked a badge the game will remember this, regardless of whether or not you quit or reload afterwards.
  • To check the status of a badge during a mission press , then  or  until you reach the tab “Badges”. Some badges won’t unlock before finishing the mission, however a badge will immediately be crossed out should you fail mid-game.
  • Hiding a knocked out enemy in a wooden well or barrel will remove them from the game without killing them. This can be useful for the no kill badges. Other spots can either kill them (throwing them off cliffs) or give them the opportunity to wake up after a while (hiding them in houses).

Speedrun Tips:

  • You will want to quit to the main menu before reloading a previous save if you mess up during your speedrun.
  • Generally speaking you want to leave bodies where they are to win time, but occasionally you might have to move one. Hold  during a melee kill to immediately pick up the body.
  • When moving characters across a wire, like during mission 11, you can have one character push the other one(s). This is useful since you can’t move multiple characters on the PS4 version without the use of shadow mode.

Check the overview below to see details regarding every mission and its badges. The badges that speak for themselves won’t be discussed in detail.

Note that my speedrun videos of mission 10 through 13 are the recordings of when I first attempted these missions. Due to this they might be a bit sloppy here and there. If I feel it’s necessary I’ll update these videos, that being said I would most likely follow the same strategy even on hardcore difficulty.

Mission 1: The Siege of Ōsaka

  • Don’t kill anyone (except mission targets).
  • Don’t raise any alarm.
  • Don’t touch any bushes.
  • Throw stones with Hayato to distract 3 enemies at once.
  • Don’t shoot anyone with Takuma.
  • Kill 3 enemies with an exploding barrel.
  • Kill 3 enemies with Mugen’s Sword Wind.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 11:00 minutes.

Being the tutorial mission, none of these badges should be difficult to collect.

Throw stones with Hayato to distract 3 enemies at once.
Easily obtainable after the cutscene introducing a samurai (Mugen) in need of help. Using Hayato, select the stone with , aim with  and throw it behind the three guards using . (Also earns you  No Gimmicks if done on this specific group of enemies.)

Kill 3 enemies with an exploding barrel.
This shouldn’t be too difficult to obtain, but a foolproof strategy consists of first knocking out three enemies, then placing them near an exploding barrel and finally shooting said barrel.

Kill 3 enemies with Mugen’s Sword Wind.
Easily obtainable, on a group of three guards standing near a cannon, found shortly after taking control of Mugen. Using Mugen, select Sword Wind with , aim with  and execute using .

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 11:00 minutes.

Mission 2: Trouble on the Nakasendō

  • Don’t enter the water.
  • Don’t save during the mission.
  • Kill all officers.
  • Kill 2 people with a big rock.
  • Kill 2 people with a wagon.
  • Don’t kill any civilians.
  • Provoke and ox to kill 3 people.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 05:30 minutes.

Kill 2 people with a big rock.
The rock is located at the U-turn near the bottom of the map. Standing close to the rock, Yuki’s bird’s voice has enough range to lure the 2 enemies closest to it. Once they stand below the rock, push it using .

Kill 2 people with a wagon.
The wagon is located towards the left side at the top of the map. One enemy stands in the path of the wagon at all times, while you’ll need to wait for the other enemy to come chat with him before removing both boxes acting as brakes.

Provoke and ox to kill 3 people.
I’d recommend saving before trying this as it requires a tiny bit of luck.
Near the bridge you’ll find an ox and standing behind it is an officer. By throwing a stone at the ox, it will buck and kill the officer. This will be spotted by other enemies who subsequently will be dumb enough to stand behind the ox. Repeat the process until you’ve got 3 kills.
On rare occasions the enemies won’t align well enough for the ox to kill them. If that’s the case reload and try again.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 05:30 minutes.

Mission 3: The Thieves of Imai

  • Kill all samurai.
  • Don’t destroy the wooden towers.
  • Don’t kill anyone inside the compound.
  • Make an enemy follow your footprints for 50 meters.
  • Unlock the north gate first.
  • Hide inside the red wagon.
  • Unlock the south gate first.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.
A lot of time is lost if you decide to wait for the wagon like I did, but it’s still easy to finish on time. That being said, going through the south gate is probably more optimal. This way you wouldn’t have to wait for the wagon and you’d be closer to where you need to be.

Mission 4: Escape from Mount Tsuru

  • Don’t ring the bell.
  • Don’t kill anyone with Mugen (except mission objectives).
  • Don’t use a disguise.
  • Kill only when disguised.
  • Use 3 tunnel shortcuts.
  • Get Mugen inside the temple before Aiko.
  • Get both disguises.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 20:00 minutes.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 20:00 minutes.

Mission 5: Killing Lord Yabu

  • Don’t enter the water.
  • Poison the tea and leave the estate before Lord Yabu drinks it.
  • Kill Lord Yabu without using Poison or Takuma’s Rifle.
  • Reach the highest point of Lord Yabu’s estate.
  • Use Takuma’s Rifle to kill Lord Yabu.
  • Kill all enemies inside the estate.
  • Use Poison to kill Lord Yabu.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.

Poison the tea and leave the estate before Lord Yabu drinks it.
The estate counts as the main building area, including the island where the tea is served. Not the entire area behind the wall.

Kill Lord Yabu without using Poison or Takuma’s Rifle.
Note that even though Lord Yabu can be killed by shooting him, he is still a samurai and some methods won’t work on him (i.e.: Yuki’s little trap, Hayato’s shuriken, etc…). The easiest method to dispatch him, besides using poison or Takuma’s rifle, would be to throw a grenade at him with Takuma.

Reach the highest point of Lord Yabu’s estate.
The highest point is the roof of the main building (which Lord Yabu enters and leaves periodically). It can be reached with either Hayato or Yuki, by using their hookshot. (Press  to highlight interactable objects if you can’t see where to use the hookshot.)

Kill all enemies inside the estate.
The estate counts as the main building area, including the island where the tea is served. Not the entire area behind the wall.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.

Mission 6: Spies in Hida Village

  • Don’t use a disguise.
  • Don’t enter the water.
  • Don’t kill anyone, and don’t raise any alarm.
  • Extinguish all torches, including torches carried by enemies.
  • Eavesdrop on the patrol at the tavern.
  • Eavesdrop on the patrol at the stables.
  • Help the mistreated villagers.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.

Help the mistreated villagers.
There’s a total of four groups of villagers you will need to help. In order to help them, you will need to take out the enemies harassing them.

The villagers that need help are:

  • the man who’s forced to carry firewood to the group standing close to your starting location,
  • the woman who’s forced to carry pots, which a samurai uses as target practice,
  • the two women standing on a small hill near the stables who are about to get raped and/or killed and
  • the man at the stables who has to load a wagon.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 15:00 minutes.

Mission 7: Suganuma Rescue

  • Don’t climb ladders or vines, and don’t use the hookshot.
  • Complete the mission without reclaiming Mugen’s gear.
  • Rescue the farmers before you rescue Mugen.
  • Kill 3 enemies by crushing them with rocks.
  • Kill 4 enemies with a single grenade.
  • Don’t step on loud surfaces.
  • Kill all enemies.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 20:00 minutes.

Kill 4 enemies with a single grenade.
Part of my speedrun strategy and easily obtainable when the large patrol that leaves the village returns near the end of the game (towards the bottom left of the map), which happens sometime after freeing/moving the villagers.

The returning patrol will run through the bottleneck at which time they are very vulnerable to a grenade. You will obviously need to have Takuma at the ready nearby for this to work. (Check the speedrun video at about 14:10.)

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 20:00 minutes.

Mission 8: Attack on Kanazawa

  • Only kill guards using Hayato.
  • Don’t shoot anyone with Takuma.
  • Don’t kill any rebel officers.
  • Free the caged Shogunate men inside Kanazawa Castle.
  • Kill all rebel officers.
  • Kill General Okkoto within 10 seconds after he left his tent.
  • Kill 4 enemies with an explosive barrel.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 21:00 minutes.

Free the caged Shogunate men inside Kanazawa Castle.
If you were to enter Kanazawa castle from the main gate, the prisoners will be located on the right side locked inside two bamboo cages. Approach their doors and press  to open them. (Also earns you  Prisoners.)

Kill General Okkoto within 10 seconds after he left his tent.
Can easily be done in one of two ways:

  • Rush in with Mugen and shoot him using the matchlock pistol.
  • Place an explosive barrel near General Okkoto’s tent before gathering everyone at the safe spot. Once you’re ready, gather your team in the bush and immediately shoot the barrel with Takuma once General Okkoto appears. (Also earns you  The Old Way.)

Kill 4 enemies with an explosive barrel.
Can easily be obtained when going for  The Old Way using the strategy mentioned above, but a foolproof strategy consists of first knocking out four enemies, then placing them near an exploding barrel and finally shooting said barrel.

Note that enemies which die as a result of blowing up the supply depot earlier on during the mission, do not seem to count for this badge unless they stand inside the barrel’s blast zone.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 21:00 minutes.

Mission 9: The Death of Kage-sama

  • Don’t select Mugen.
  • Don’t raise any alarm.
  • Kill all enemies.
  • Kill 3 enemies with a single grenade.
  • Don’t step on loud surfaces.
  • Hide all bodies in bushes, wells, doors, etc.
  • Knock out Kage-sama instead of killing him.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 10:00 minutes.

Hide all bodies in bushes, wells, doors, etc.
There’s nothing difficult about this badge, but it is slightly annoying. That’s because there are only a few places in this mission where you can hide bodies and all of these are located near the center of the map. Due to this you might need to do a fair amount of backtracking if you decide to kill a lot of enemies.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 10:00 minutes.

Mission 10: Betrayal at Mount Tsuru

  • Kill all enemies after reuniting with Mugen.
  • Don’t reclaim any of your gear.
  • Don’t shoot anyone with Takuma.
  • Don’t call back Kuma.
  • Don’t use a disguise.
  • Escape with Hayato first.
  • Escape with Yuki first.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 25:00 minutes.

Kill all enemies after reuniting with Mugen.
It does not matter what you do with the enemies in the first part of this mission, but everyone in the second part, after you reunited with Mugen, has to be killed.

Escape with Hayato first.
Can be done by hiding Hayato in the bushes and throwing a stone at the nearby guard. (Also earns you Stoned.)
Alternatively you can start by recalling Kuma. He will bring ammunition for Takuma’s rifle, which you can use to shoot the icicle above Hayato’s prison cell. At this point Hayato can use his hookshot to escape.

Escape with Yuki first.
Start by recalling Kuma. He will bring ammunition for Takuma’s rifle, which you can use to shoot Yuki’s prison cell. This in turn will fall down and break open when it hits the ground.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 25:00 minutes.

Mission 11: Taking Masaru

  • Don’t climb ladders or vines, and don’t use the hookshot.
  • Don’t enter the water.
  • Don’t interfere with the masseur or the bathwater.
  • Kill 5 enemies with falling objects.
  • Don’t extinguish any lights, including torches carried by enemies.
  • Overheat the bathwater.
  • Take out the masseur.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 09:00 minutes.

Don’t interfere with the masseur or the bathwater.
The best location to do this is when Masaru is closest to the docks, on his way to or from the masseur. Have both of your characters stand ready in the bushes and use shadow mode to shoot both samurai simultaneously. After they’ve been shot you’ll need to manually rush up to them, kill them and then run away. Once the alarm has gone down you’ll be able to kidnap Masaru without difficulties.

You can try kidnapping Masaru immediately after killing both samurai, but it’s pretty hard to pull off and not recommended.

Kill 5 enemies with falling objects.
There’s several objects throughout both the first and second part of the mission which can be pushed onto enemies. Some of these will already have enemies standing close enough, while others will require you to lure some.

This badge can be done without luring any enemies, but a particularly good spot will require you to lure some. There’s a flowerpot close to the second disguise. In that same street there’s five enemies patrolling which can be lured if you extinguish the nearby lantern. You might want to eliminate some other enemies who can see that lantern first to make things easier though. Once the patrol has been lured, you can drop the flowerpot and kill three of them.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 09:00 minutes.

Mission 12: A Fateful Meeting

  • Don’t kill anyone (except mission targets).
  • Never drop Masaru.
  • Don’t hide in any of the wagons.
  • Reach the highest point of Myōgi Pass.
  • Kill all enemies that carry torches.
  • Use the wagons to reach the Shogun’s tent.
  • Use the sleeping draught to reach the Shogun’s tent.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 25:00 minutes.

Never drop Masaru.
When the mission starts, Hayato will walk towards Masaru to pick him up. If you act quickly you can prevent this. You can now choose who picks up Masaru or even better, clear the mission first and backtrack when you’re ready. Unlike normal enemies that have been knocked out, Masaru will never wake up (unless an enemy spots him and wakes him).

Reach the highest point of Myōgi Pass.
The highest point is the top of the roof of the temple, located close to where both wagons go. (Press  to highlight interactable objects if you can’t see where to use the hookshot.) (Also earns you  High Five the Moon.)

Use the wagons to reach the Shogun’s tent.
To achieve this you will need to use both wagons.
The first wagon (red) leaves close to your starting position towards the left. This wagon will go all the way to the nearby temple, but you’ll need to exit at the first stop, otherwise the samurai will spot you when they check the wagon. (Also earns you  Still Rollin’.)
The second wagon (green) leaves close to the temple and stops very close to the Shogun’s tent.

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 25:00 minutes.

Mission 13: The Death of Noboru

  • Don’t kill anyone (except mission targets).
  • Finish the final mission.
  • Don’t use Aiko’s skills.
  • Don’t kill anyone in the garden.
  • Drown Lord Noboru.
  • Enter the well at the west wall.
  • Enter the well at the north wall.
  • Complete the mission on Hardcore difficulty.
  • Speedrun: Complete the mission under 30:00 minutes.

Don’t use Aiko’s skills.
This pretty much makes Aiko completely useless throughout the entire mission as even killing someone with her counts as using one of her skills.

Drown Lord Noboru.
After you’ve reached Lord Noboru, knock him out. Now start dropping him bit by bit. Once you’ve reached the cliffs at the back of the castle, you should be able to drop him into the water. (Also earns you  Noboru.)

Speedrun: Complete the mission under 30:00 minutes.
